I have been shooting my pictures in auto and without a tripod for way too long. I have a basic understanding of photoshop, but I was ready to begin understanding my Nikon, and stop shooting in auto or a preset.

This book got me hooked, I have a better understanding of aperture, shutterspeed, ISO, and white balance--as well as a better understanding of all of the "tools" out there to use. I love photoshop, but knowing how to take a great picture in the first place is just as i I love this book! I love photoshop, but knowing how to take a great picture in the first place is just as important. There seem to be so many complicated photography books out there, this one is short, simple, and to the point; yet covers tack sharp photos, flowers, weddings, landscapes, sports, portraits, problems, travel and city, and printing.

Here is my favorite quote: The idea is to use Photoshop to finish your photos--not to fix them. You want to spend your time being creative and having fun, not fixing things you should have done correctly in the camera. Thank you for your feedback. Share your thoughts with other customers. These are great books. So good, in fact that I bought the site version for my iPad even though I already own a set of print edition.

I intend to use this as a reference while traveling with my camera. Despite my enthusiasm for the content, the site edition set is very difficult to use. All three books are delivered as a single file, but the table of contents pulled up by the menu only refers to book one. This issue renders the site book very difficult to use as a reference.

site informs me that the only option is to contact the publisher or take a refund.

With regret, I have accepted a refund and will continue to use the print edition. I cannot recommend that you download the site edition of this set.

Lots of suggestions for how to do things, and what to look for in your gear. If you know someone that is jsut getting into photography this series would be a very good gift, outside of camera gear of course!

Well written, most of the lessons are written to only take one page to get the point across, while being organized into chapters that focus on specific aspects of photography. Also, Scott's sense of humor really helps keep the pace going. First some basic information.

Until four years ago I hadn't used a camera seriously for many, many years. I lost interest! I hear you say! And quite right too.

Scott Kelby Books

Prior to this shameful absence this I had used many 35 mm cameras from basic point and shoot through to more serious equipment such as Canons Ftb and F1. Mainly cos it is a stronger, sturdier camera body with metal frame and weather sealing I, in a moment of insanity, downloadd a 7D.

Lovely camera, wonderfully comfortable to use, for me anyhow. But complicated??? OK, The books.

Basically and simply put I found these books to be a very useful set of tools for anyone who, like me, has difficulty with all the theory. Over the years I learned enough to shoot without having to stop and think about settings.

I like Scotts credo of telling me what to do, rather than going into theory of his technique he simply describes a situation then tells how he shot it. He goes on to show why but simply which, as i said, I like. I like the books and happily recommend them to a novice and even a returning photographer facing a daunting technology, I bought 4 which to really nit pick, I found to be the weakest of the series but still and all, an informative and enjoyable read. I'm just starting in the world of DSLR photography in order to do two things: Those are very, very different aspects of digital photography due to so many factors -- depth of field, lighting, subject matter, framing -- and yet this series of books has given me untold amounts of aid in setting myself up to take some great photos.

The first book in the series is sort of like a second primer; I wouldn't use it as the absolute first resource in learning digital photography, but once you've had experience, it's a great refresher and gives you some tips and "secrets" you probably didn't get from wherever you did start learning the ropes.

He calms down towards the end though.

For example, he doesn't use complicated words when explaining how to get great flower shots. He just tells you as a friend would.

Set your camera at this setting, do this, do that, and there you go.

I want to try out everything he explained. It's one of those books I would like to have on hand to h This guys writing will drive you nuts at the beginning because he is constantly joking.

It's one of those books I would like to have on hand to have as a reference or learning companion as I continue to progress in digital photography.

In this Part 5, Scott devotes entire chapters to photographing people in natural light and in the studio , sports, weddings, landscapes, travel, hot shoe flash, and nature photography. EPUB The open industry format known for its reflowable content and usability on supported mobile devices. I liked this book, though, because it reminded me a lot of having a conversation with a photographer friend. I would recommend this book to beginners or anyone who doesn't have a clue when it comes to lighting, how far you should stand from your subject, what height to shoot from, or if you want to learn professional techniques.
